Tips for Spring Gardening

To create a new garden bed, mark your shape or line for the bed with string, or spray paint. Cut out the sod, or weeds and turn them upside down in the new bed. They compost themselves within a couple of weeks and you don't lose any of that sweet topsoil.

Tips for Summer Gardening

Water Wise

There are many ways to keep a healthy green garden throughout the dry season in the Pacific NW. Here are a few suggestions.

Install a rain barrel to catch water during the rainy season.

Mulch the garden beds with compost mulch.  this keeps the weeds down and helps to retain moisture in the soil.

Create a plant design that provides natural shade from the summer sun. the lower ground covers will hold the moisture towards the ground.

Welcome to Spring!

Such a delight the fullness of spring brings this year.  As Matteo and I begin to emerge from a winter of building rock walls and websites, we look towards our own garden and creating something delightful and sustainable.  This spring's project has been about rebuilding the parking strip in front of our home. This has included building a 4' x 8' raised garden bed for growing vegetables, reworking the garden beds and and planting an Amelanchier grandiflora tree.

Welcome to Summer!

Summer has come into full fruition. The vegetables are growing strong in the raised bed out front and we have turned our attention to building a 'barn' in the back yard. We are blessed to be surrounded by a community of adventure seekers, who came to the barn raising and in one day helped us create the structure.

More work needs to be down to complete the barn but we are well on our way to having a sweet working space and are looking forward to planting a garden in the fall.
